Arrival FAQs

  1. I am trying to figure out rental car options.  I noticed on the contract it indicates car rental information.  Can you tell me more about that? Cost? Type of vehicle?

You will have to call the car rental company of your choice and Pay a deposit. All car rental companies are locally owned and we recommend based on customer reviews.

  1. Courtesy Car Rental is family owned and operated and will pick you up from the dock.

  2. Mr. Piper’s Jeeps Is another favorite and will also pick you up.

  3. Aqua Blu is another we like. In addition to car rentals, they offer taxi services.

If you plan on renting a vehicle on St. Thomas, we recommend:

  4. Budget

  5. Amalie Car Rental

When renting a car you will deal directly with the company. Regretfully, St. John Ultimate Villas is unable to reserve a vehicle for you. If you rent your car in St. Thomas remember to ask for 4 wheel drive and make sure they know you are coming to St. John. Some companies don’t allow their cars to be transported on the car barge.

2. my group will have multiple arrival days/times. If some of my group prefer a private taxi from the airport, approximately how much does that cost?

A Private Taxi from the Airport to Red Hook Starts at $90 for 1-4 passengers. If your group is larger, expect to be charged $15 for each additional person. At the airport, Your group will exit the baggage claim and there will be taxi dispatch agents standing along the sidewalk. You will have to request a private taxi to Redhook for the group.

If you choose to go with a regular taxi, it costs about $15-$20 per person and $4 for each bag. The Red hook ferry leaves every hour on the hour. It costs $8.15 one way per person and $4 for each bag.

3. What do I need to know about renting a car in St. Thomas?

If you rent a car in St. Thomas, you will need to take the car ferry (barge) over from Redhook. As you enter the port you will be required to make a $3-$4 cash payment for port entry. Once you are on board you will pay either $35 for a one-way ticket or $50 round trip. There are two barge companies and they do not share tickets, so if you purchase a round trip ticket, you must return on the same barge that you arrived on.

On your day of departure, plan ahead of time so you get back to the Airport 2-3 hours before your flight. Below are the schedules for the two barge companies. Love City Ferries allows you to book at least 3 days ahead and have a reservation. This does not guarantee your spot in line. You still have to get to the barge dock at least 45 min ahead of departure to ensure you will have a spot on the barge.

4. Can I provide you with multiple dates/times to coordinate if needed?

Yes you would have to provide us with the times if you choose the water taxi. Other than that you will need to book the other options yourself.

You can also take a ferry from Crown Bay. Their times are relative to different seasons and situations.

8. How do we Get to the BVI and visit the other islands outside of the USVI?

First, make sure you have an updated passport. it is required for all boat trips and international travel. No boat captain will take you if you don’t have this document. There is an option to book private charter boats to the islands of the BVI and we can recommend those if you contact us. If you choose to take the public ferry, you will have to work within the schedule of that service. Also make sure you are adhering to covid testing requirements. Contact Interisland for more info.
