Traveling to the USVI: COVID UPDATE June 2021

Arriving to the USVI

All travelers ages five and older are required to submit a COVID-19 test to the USVI Travel Portal before arriving in the Territory. A valid COVID-19 test must fulfill these requirements:

1. The COVID-19 test must be obtained from a laboratory that is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment. If you are traveling from outside of the United States, you will be required to obtain a COVID-19 test from an approved facility in your country of departure.

2. To be cleared for travel, your test results must prove either a negative molecular test (taken by nasal or oral swab), a negative antigen test (also known as a rapid test, also taken nasally or orally), or a positive antibody test (taken by blood sample).

3. Both the COVID-19 test and the lab results must be obtained within a five day period leading up to your arrival in the Territory. Tests taken outside of the five day period will not be accepted. We urge visitors to plan ahead in order to ensure that you complete your tests and receive your results in time for your travels.

When you check in for your flight to the USVI, airport personnel will ask you to present a digital or print copy of your COVID-19 test results. Failure to present these documents may prohibit you from boarding your flight. When your flight arrives in the USVI, keep your Travel Portal certification and other COVID-19 related documents handy, as local officials will review them before you enter baggage claim. Upon arrival, you may also be subject to COVID-19 screening such as temperature and thermal scans. Those who do not pass screening will be required to quarantine immediately, taking a direct route from the airport to their accommodations and remaining in isolation for 10 days.

NOTE: If your Travel Portal submission is not certified 24 hours before travel time, track your application here or contact the Travel Portal team at travelportal@usvitravelportal.com. Within your email, include the tracking ID code that you will have received upon completion of your Travel Portal submission.

CAUTION: Fraudulent COVID-19 test results or failure to adhere to quarantine procedures will result in a fine of $500-$1,000 and/or jail time of two to five years.

During your Vacation

The USVI is currently in the “Safer at Home” phase, which requires you to wear masks, regardless of whether or not you have been vaccinated. By completion of the Travel Portal you will have acknowledged and accepted the terms put in place by the USVI Government to protect our local workers. No mask, No service. To respect our hard workers and curtail the spread of the virus, make sure that your mask covers both your nose and mouth, and kindly accept hand sanitizer that may be offered to you as you enter stores, restaurants, and other public establishments. If, at any point during your stay, you begin to develop COVID-19 symptoms, we urge you to stay home and book an appointment with the nearest COVID-19 testing lab. A list of testing labs in the Territory can be found below.

Returning Home

Travelers returning to the United States from the USVI are generally not required to obtain a COVID-19 test before travel. However, some states have issued their own set of return requirements, some of which include proof of a negative COVID-19 test and/or mandatory 10 day quarantine if unable to provide such documents. Check with your state’s travel restrictions to find out what steps are required to re-enter.
